WinHEC 2008: Acer combines the latest CE technologies into a notebook
After introducing of its first notebook featuring Dolby Digital in 2006, Acer has again implanted the latest consumer electronics technologies into its notebook product line this year with the launch of the Aspire 8920G notebook.
The notebook features a 16:9 aspect ratio-based 18.4-inch panel that supports Full HD resolution up to 1920×1080, and a Blu-ray drive to play high-quality movies.
The innovations of the notebook caught the eye of the WinHEC judges earning Acer the Media and Entertainment award at WinHEC 2008.
The Aspire 8920G won the award for its media playback performance, especially in regards to its sound system, as well as its competitive price and specifications, the judges noted.
The notebook adopts a panel that features Wide Color Gamut Plus (WCG+) technology to help present 100% more color range intensity than today's typical notebook panels, making details, flesh tones and images more attractive, according to Acer, adding that with the built-in HDMI port, the notebook can turn into a home entertainment system when connected to a home theater system, digital video (DV) camcorder, projector and high definition TV.
The Acer Aspire 8920G adopts Intel's Centrino platform comprising of a Core 2 Duo processor and PM965 chipset. The notebook can support up to 4GB of DDR2 667MHz memory. The notebook also features second generation Dolby Home Theater audio technologies to optimize the audio experience.
Acer has also included its exclusive CineDash media console, a touch-sensitive entertainment interface that allows volume adjustments and menu scrolling with a simple finger movement.
Acer said it believes innovation should be created based on consumer's demand, not just for its own sake, and the Aspire 8920G notebook is and example of that philosophy.
