According to Gartner, IoT devices worldwide will top 25 billion units by 2020. The billions of end devices, together with big data analytics, the O2O (online-to-offline) business model and a variety of IoT application technologies, will push the commercial value of IoT to new heights. The construction of “IoT commercial district” is essential to stimulating IoT economy and expediting smart city development.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs is actively promoting policies related to IoT commercial district models in recent years. Under collaboration with the IDEAS of the Institute for Information Industry and other organizations and businesses, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has launched the innovative IoT commercial service, iYou Taipei(i優台北), in the Xinyi, Ximen, and Yongkang shopping districts in Taipei as well as the Feng Chia commercial district IoT application service plan in Taichung, which has enhanced the smart city infrastructure in the Feng Chia district, including street software and hardware provisioning, business services, traffic planning, and development of the neighboring communities.
Smart commercial district IoT collects information, and through big data analytics delivers customized shopping advice, parking information, and shopping route suggestions to individual consumers, and also provides analysis data such as shopper flow, age, and gender to businesses for them to raise marketing precision and operation efficiency. The development of smart commercial districts creates a win-win situation for both consumers and businesses and thereby the city economy can continue to grow.
The forum, gathering experts from government, industrial, and academic sectors, takes place on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Le Xuan Banquet Hall on the third floor of the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. Centering on the development of IoT commercial districts, participants in the forum will share successful experiences on the technology and application architectures and map out optimized solutions for sustainable growth of smart cities. Participation in the event is free but space is limited. We welcome your participation and registration for the event.
