In 1979, III was incorporated as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) through the joint efforts of public and private sectors, to support the development/applications of the information industry as well as the information society in Taiwan.

Besides technology advancement, III’s mission has evolved from Information Technology (IT) to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development with a wide social coverage.

Since its inception, III has been a source of vision, innovation and technological excellence.  It is a major contributor to Taiwan’s development into a significant player in the global ICT industry.  Whilst dedicated to reinforce industrial development, III has also helped promote full utilization of ICT technologies hence advancing the establishment of a modern information society in Taiwan.  As a result, Taiwan ranks 12th in the WEF/GCI (Global Competitiveness Index) and 11th in the WEF/NRI (Network Readiness Index) in 2009-2010.

In 1961, the Feng Chia College of Engineering and Business was established on Guanyin Mountain in Beitun District of Taichung City. Two years later it was moved to its present location in Xitun District. University status was granted in 1980 and the name changed to Feng Chia University (FCU). For over 50 years, FCU has steadily increased in size and scope. Currently, it is comprised of eight schools and colleges, four independent graduate institutes and three independent doctoral programs.

Between 2005 and 2013, FCU was consistently awarded substantial grants for its excellence in teaching and learning projects. For five of those years, FCU received the largest grants for excellence in teaching and learning projects of any university in Taiwan. In addition, all 17 engineering-related academic departments have received IEET accreditation. In 2012, FCU became the only comprehensive university in Taiwan to receive a 100% passage rate for all Ministry of Education-evaluated administrative units, academic departments and graduate institutes. It is also the only comprehensive university in Taiwan with the distinction of receiving a Ministry of Education commendation for excellence in administrative affairs. 

Mega International Commercial Bank Co., Ltd. has come into being as a result of the merger of The International Commercial Bank of China and Chiao Tung Bank. Both banks have been proud of their longtime histories of outstanding track records in our country.

With a view to enlarging the business scale and increasing the market share, ICBC and CTB formally merged into one bank under the name of Mega International Commercial Bank Co., Ltd. on August 21, 2006. Owing to the consolidation, the Bank now has 108 branches at home and 21 branches, 3 representative offices abroad. Together with the network are wholly-owned bank subsidiaries in Thailand and Canada, along with their branches, bringing the number of our overseas outposts to 35 in total. It has manpower 5,100 strong and an aggregate paid-in capital of NT$77 billion.

The predecessor of Trade-Van was “The Cargo Clearance Automation Planning and Promotion (CCAPP) Task Force”, which was formed under the approval of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China to address the difficulties faced by the exporters and importers in customs clearance. The mission of the CCAPP task force was thus to build a clearance automation and customs duty payment system to speed up customs clearance operations and help traders reduce trading costs. After four years of efforts, the CCAPP task force successfully set up the customs clearance automation system, which reduced the air cargo clearance time from 4 hours to 0.216 hours on the average and shortened the sea cargo clearance operations from 6 hours to an average of 2.049 hours. Meanwhile, it took less than 10 minutes for the C1 (without document or physical inspection) customs clearance and cargo examination, opening a new era in the international trade history of Taiwan. The CCAPP task force was thus conferred the Best Information Application Award by the Executive Yuan.

After successful completion of the mission, many people considered it a pity to dissolve the CCAPP task force while the government also wanted to keep it to help develop other electronic processes for all industries. Thus, the CCAPP task force was privatized and reformed as a company (with the government holding less than 50% of shares) in 1996. The company was named Trade-Van Information Services Co. (VAN stands for “Value Added Network”), whose mission was to continue strengthening customs clearance automation services, actively explore the network resources, research and develop state-of-the-art technology, expand business and service scopes, and provide a full range of value-added network services.

Supported by a dozen or so domestic businesses, the TFC Corp. was fortunate to have local and international experts in charge of the planning, and world-class architect C.Y. Lee was responsible for the design of the project. The design transcends the uni-body concept and is based on the Chinese number 8, a numeral long considered lucky in Chinese culture. Eight-floor structural units are connected one by one on top of each other to form the whole. This kind of rhythmic aesthetic is new to skyscrapers.

Not only does this sustainable, intelligent office tower accommodate a daily average of 10,000-odd tenants with world-class amenities and energy-efficient, recycling solutions, it is also the tallest green building on our planet that has consecutively met the LEED-EBOM Platinum certification requirements.
